Being from the same product family and manufacturer, the XFX GeForce 8800 GTX XXX Edition’s box and bundle is basically the same as what you get with the company’s GeForce 8800 GTS XXX Edition covered on the previous page. Everything is packed in the same way and the box contents are the same, too. One notable omission from both of XFX’s XXX Edition products are the six-pin PCI-Express power adapters.

I know that most power supplies come with at least two these days, but there are power supplies powerful enough to run these video cards that don’t have any six-pin PCI-E power connectors included. It’s a shame not to see them included with what are essentially flagship products – we all know that high-end products are the ones with high margins, too.

Just like the GTS 640MB XXX Edition card, the GTX 768MB XXX Edition looks like a reference board with a sticker. There is no indication that this card is actually an overclocked video card until you plug it in and start playing your favourite games with it – we’d like to see the product advertised as an XXX Edition. Apart from that minor oversight, I really like the new art work on XFX’s cards – it looks pretty smart in my opinion.

This time around, it seems like XFX has opted not to increase the stream processor clock (according to RivaTuner’s clock monitoring utility). Instead, it’s left humming along at a modest 1350MHz. The card has a higher core clock than EVGA’s e-GeForce 8800 GTX KO ACS³ Edition – this time it equates to a 9.5% clock enhancement. The memory clock is increased by the same amount as EVGA’s card, 100MHz (200MHz effective) or 11%.

XFX's Warranty Terms:

Based on what is on XFX’s support site, it is unclear how long the European warranty covers your card for because the company makes no mention of how long the warranty lasts for on its GeForce 8-series cards. Back when we reviewed the GeForce 7950 GT 570M Extreme, the European warranty was a standard limited two year warranty that covers the repair or replacement of the product. We have also confirmed this as the case with an XFX representative, too.

It is still unclear why the company gives preference to its US customers, who get a “double lifetime warranty”. We’d like to see the company offer something up there with the likes of BFGTech and EVGA in Europe.
